Farnworth School of Motoring was founded in 1945 by Mr. James B Howard in response to changes in the law and the demand for professional driver training. In 1975, with the ever increasing need for professional training, Farnworth SOM began specialising in driving instructor training.

We provide professional instruction in all aspects of driver training including Instructor Training/Re-training, Cardington Special Driving Test, Advanced Driving, Learner Tuition and Pass Plus.

The training is directed by Peter Howard Dip DI, a Grade 6 driving instructor who holds the City & Guilds Teaching Certificate, has passed the Diploma in Driving Instruction and has gained the coveted DIAmond Advanced Instructor/Examiner qualification. He is also listed on the ORDIT register – The OFFICIAL REGISTER of DRIVING INSTRUCTOR TRAINERS. This means that his standards are checked by a senior official from the Driving Standards Agency, who spends a full day assessing not only the quality of training but also the standard of the training facilities, including premises.
