Farnworth School of Motoring is perhaps the oldest in the
Bolton area. It was founded in 1945 by Mr. James B. Howard
in response to changes in the law and the demand for driver
training.
In 1975, with the ever increasing need for driving instructors,
Farnworth SOM began specializing in ADI work.
We provide specialized instruction in every aspect of driver

The training is directed by Peter W. Howard Dip DI (son of
James B. Howard) who is an A Grade driving instructor who
holds the City & Guilds Teaching Certificate, has passed
the Diploma in Driving Instruction and has gained the coveted
DIAmond Advanced Instructor/Examiner qualification.
He is also listed on the ORDIT register – The OFFICIAL REGISTER
of DRIVING INSTRUCTOR TRAINERS. This means that his business
is checked by a senior official from the DVSA every two years,
who assesses not only the quality of training but also the
standard of the training facilities, including premises.
